About LMSL
The Lewis-McKinley Symbolic Language (LMSL) was invented by Clovice A. Lewis, Jr. on March 31, 2000. It was inspired by a conversation with Roger McKinley, who was in need of a means to graphically depict abstract concepts he taught as part of his "Course in Fundamentals". The LMSL allows users to describe the evolution of practically any system using simple, intuitive symbology and/or color. The evolutionary aspect of the language was largely stimulated by the "meme" concept introduced in the groundbreaking book entitled "The Selfish Gene" by Richard Dawkins, which was first published in 1976.
Roger JB McKinley
Roger was born in Portland, Indiana to Raymond and Samaria McKinley. He was the seventh child of seven children. He is survived by his wife Corenne and his four children Rock, Tim, Tammy and Tina, and Grandchildren Darryl, Rori, Alyssa, Roger III, Christopher, Derek, and Andrew. He was preceded in death by his lovely Granddaughter, Dawn. He fought a long and fearsome battle with cancer for ten years since 2000. Roger McKinley passed away on December 20, 2010 at 7:07 pm with his loving family at his side at his home.
Roger graduated Purdue University in 1959 with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and started his professional career as a technical sales engineer for Pure Carbonic. After four years, he left Pure Carbonic in search of a greater challenge in engineering with Fife, and was relocated after a year to Appleton, Wisconsin.
In 1968 Roger took a new job with Palo Alto based Optics Technology and moved to the Chicago area to represent them throughout the Midwest. After less than a year he moved the family to California and in 1970, left Optics Technology to join Tempress, a Los Gatos based company that manufactured semiconductor assembly equipment. Tempress was acquired by Sola Basic and relocated its operation to Southern California. Roger was then hired by Hugle Industries as the VP of sales and marketing. About two years later Roger was invited to take charge of sales and marketing for Advanced Crystal Sciences. In 1980 Roger, with two Stanford engineers, developed Innovative Engineering which then merged with Airprotek 10 years later to form Delatech. In 1999, Delatech was purchased by ATMI and Roger stayed on board for a brief period of time as the Vice President in charge of Key Account Management and Development.
For the last eleven years of his life, Roger devoted his professional time to ISIMP, the Institute for Self Image and Motivational Philosophy developing motivational products, The McKinley Family Educational Foundation and AZ Custom Smart homes building custom homes in Scottsdale, AZ. His personal time had always been devoted to his family and friends with time always set aside to play golf and travel. Experiencing the personal growth of his family members and nurturing their successes was always very important to Roger.
